I was recently involved in a soccer team that won a 1-day tournament. A victory I am still savouring given how rare it is for me!
As I reflected on the achievement, I felt like Al Bundy reminiscing about his high school football achievements!
The reflection process became interesting when I began to query why we won….given we weren’t the best team by far.
The difference was our structure, it was our real strength.
Everyone was clear on what their roles were, and what their role was not.
This was particularly handy when players substituted each other.
It felt like people plugging into a system, whereas many of our opponents seemed to change their structure with each substitute.
A nice analogy for Business. Winning teams usually have a structure that people plug into, not the other way around.
