So what is coaching?

Put simply coaching is the art of zooming in and zooming out.

Have you ever become immersed in the detail of something only to step back and realise you didn’t solve the real problem?

Whether it be cleaning the house before the cleaner comes, washing the car before it rains, solving customer problems in a way that cannot be scaled or perfecting a product that is near extinction…..we are all guilty.

A well-known example is Kodak who invested all their effort into improving their ‘film’ product whilst ignoring the digital camera opportunity.  And they were the first ones to develop the digital camera….go figure.

Coaching is a process that helps leaders to zoom in and out.  Zooming out helps Leaders to get out of the trenches and get perspective.  Zooming in ensures the right actions are taken and being implemented.

Beep Test – Look In The Mirror

Healthy people regularly check their health/fitness levels, healthy businesses need to do the same. The BEEP test is a ‘fitness’ test on a business that highlights strengths and weaknesses of the business across both commercial and cultural aspects. The test involves a series of staff interviews and an inspection of the financials. There are 10 criteria that are scored on a scale of 1-5. The outcome is a score and set of recommendations around where focus is needed, and not needed.
