Are we wasting our time with Job Descriptions?

I found this an interesting read..

The point of the article is that JD’s don’t tend to add strategic value because they are often generic and become out-dated very quickly.

So why do we bother?

Is it time to accept they are no longer as useful for things like employer risk mitigation or role clarity….and re-purpose them to a Marketing tool?

If so, why is this task still sitting in the HR function for most Businesses? and not Marketing? Would love your thoughts.
