I mentioned in a previous blog that my new year’s resolution was to get fit, which involved busting open a limiting belief..that I can’t swim.
To do that I signed up to an event involving a 1.5km ocean swim – nothing like confronting a fear by walking into it!
I achieved my first milestone by completing a 700m river swim recently…and survived.
As I reflected on the accomplishment (not drowning), the ‘real’ dividend dawned on me. It was more than swimming, it stretched my comfort zone in everything.
It’s well proven that “stretching” beyond your comfort zone is a transferable skill – do it in one area and you’re developing the attitudinal and behavioural capacity to do it in other areas.
For example, I have found myself re-entering the stock market….for those that know me will know how big a leap that is!!
A very small but real example of the cultural and commercial benefits that come out of dissolving a limiting belief.
So what fear will you be walking into in 2015?!
